Mood Retro is a new game studio with roots in open source games for tinkerers and with a goal to make a open world game that will be published on Steam and work on Linux and Mac platforms initially.
Working on a game with great controls, grapple and hook, unique 3d modeling, fluid movement which the base is mostly done now and next step is level design and animation work mostly using the 3d software called Blender and Unity. I am planning on adding more details with a playtest and larger roadmap soon to building to the title screen, unique character and eventually finished game to publish on Steam.
I do plan on launching a community game in Godot eventually for now focusing on Unity. I also have projects in Unreal and Godot and plan on creating educational content as well and document the journey and tradeoffs of the different technology vs creating my own engine. Excited to share with the you all and to continue on this learning and creative journey. I have a working system and the game has 5 levels so far. Initial early Release early access is planned for 2027 or 2028 and will be uploading screenshots soon like the one above which shows a low poly tree and mushroom I created in blender.
The two screenshots here are from two 2d open source games and in a working state and published on Github. The first one I created with C++ and SDL called Shadow Forest and one game in Python called ButterflyAdventure using pyzero. If you are interested in learning and tinkering let me know.
